Meet the incredible humans that make up the Cue crew.

Tell us a bit about Lewis

I started out my career as a graphic designer but quickly realised I preferred interacting with customers, closing deals and building teams. Since then I’ve worked at various startups and tech companies getting stuck into growing the revenue.

How did you find your way to Cue?

I actually studied as a graphic designer and even got my first job at a startup application development company. In the first week I knew it wasn't for me, I wanted to be in the boardroom closing deals!

I moved into a sales position at that company and flew from day one. Since then I've helped build tech companies, property investment funds, print companies and AI platforms... a pretty wide range of solutions!

What is your favourite part of the job?

I'm a sucker for the thrill of sales! Whether it's a deal of mine or even better, when one of the team closes a killer sale, I love it!

What is your mission in life? What inspires you?

From a professional perspective, growth! Some people would say I have an unhealthy obsession, I'd say it's the ultimate motivator. I'm driven by improvement, whether that's smashing sales targets, building the team or even in the gym, I want every day to be better than the last.

Have you consumed any good books, podcasts, blogs, or films lately?

I just finished reading the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People for the second time, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for their next great read!

What do get up to when you're not crushing your sales targets? My partner and I love getting out into nature for walks in the Peak District. I'm also a big boxing fan, so I try to get into the gym 5-6 times a week.

What's it like being a Brit working with a bunch of Saffa's?

Well, the climate difference is certainly frustrating! Whilst I'm in rainy Mansfield, the South African team are often basking in the sunshine... but apart from that it's a pleasure!

What has the experience been like to be the first Cue employee in the UK?

Refreshing! Myself and the founders are extremely aligned in our goals so it's been a pleasure powering towards them together. Being first is always a challenge, but a very rewarding one when you put the graft in and see the team begin to grow.

Describe your day-to-day for us

As the Head of Sales, my main focus is enabling my team to achieve their targets. My time is usually split between supporting on calls/demos, dedicated coaching, reporting and managing budgets.

You have been with Cue for just over half a year - what have been some of your biggest learnings?

By far the biggest learning has been how far behind the UK is when it comes to WhatsApp adoption. For an economy as technologically advanced as ours, most businesses are missing out on a HUGE opportunity by not utilising WhatsApp to interact with their customers.

What skills and attributes does someone need to succeed in sales?

To be a solid Business Developer you need to be persistent, motivated, coachable, methodical and most importantly for me, creative. If you can build relationships and solve people's problems, you'll do well!

In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges facing sales professionals and how do they overcome them?

I think the reason Cue is successful is that we solve a genuinely large problem with a simple yet very powerful solution.

A big challenge facing sales professionals is a product's misalignment with buyer needs. Everybody wants to launch a tech company in 2023, but is there a true need for the proposed solution? My advice to sellers is to back a product and culture that you believe in, and do the extra research upfront instead of jumping into a role.

What advice would you give to a young salesperson or someone interested in starting a career in sales?

Early on, learn, learn, learn!

I've always done my best to work with experienced, inspiring leaders who can share practical advice that I still use to this day. Getting into a position isn't easy, but it's certainly not impossible!

Until you have solid experience, you need to find a way to stand out. I hounded my first boss for 6+ months before he finally gave in and hired me... but not before he told me I was an annoying little tw*t.

Describe the Cue culture in three words

Supportive. Motivated. Collaborative.

Any last words before we wrap this up?

We're on an extremely exciting journey here at Cue, we've got a long way to go but we'll get there as a team. We have lots of exciting roles during 2023 & 2024 so if you're exploring new opportunities and Cue sounds interesting, please feel free to reach out to me directly
